I'm back!
So...I have not blogged for quite some time.
Thanksgiving came rolling around and like I have done in the past....I decided NOT to "deprive" myself and enjoy the holidays with my family. After Thanksgiving Christmas came with all the Christmas goodies and again - I decided NOT to "deprive" myself and enjoy the Christmas goodies...I would get back to Keto in the New Year.
Let's think about that word...deprive. Why is it that I believe that not eating carbs is depriving myself? I think it is because that is what EVERYONE else tells me...that I am depriving myself. But HOW is it depriving myself when I really don't miss the junk? What exactly am I depriving myself of? Inflammation? Lethargy? Burning Fat? Joint pain? Mental Clarity? Cancer???
Today starts day 3 of being back on Keto and I feel good. I don't feel like I am suffering the effects of the Keto Flu like I did the first time, so that's a bonus.
In my absence of blogging, I have been doing tons of research on the Ketogenic Diet. Recently I watched a 8 part series documentary that I found by accident and it was a real eye-opener. It went all the way back to how we got this misinformation that saturated fat was "bad". It was all started by a misogynistic man named Ansel Keys who came up with a hypothesis that saturated fats clogged your arteries and caused heart attacks. Ansel Keys befriended one of the co-founders of the American Heart Association and kind of inserted himself onto the American Heart Association nutrition committee. The co-founder that Ansel Keys became "friends" with, had huge ties to Proctor & Gamble. Proctor & Gamble are one of the largest processed food manufacturer in America...do you see where this is going??? Ansel Keys' hypothesis had no scientific evidence to back it up, however Ansel Key was a very strong personality and he was very convincing and for a time actually believed in his hypothesis...UNTIL it was proved wrong scientifically. Each scientist that proved his hypothesis wrong was basically threatened with the withholding of funding if they continued to prove his theory wrong. (so sad)
The whole series was free and very informative. It was called "The Real Skinny on Fat" and was hosted by Montel Williams & Naomi Whittle.
I love learning new things (facts) about Keto. I like being able to shut down the nay sayers like Jillian Michaels. I can't believe that ANYONE would actually listen to Jillian Michaels knowing what we know about her. This is a woman who claims to be "health conscious" and yet puts her name on highly processed food, FAT BURNERS, advocated for YEARS working people out on the Biggest Loser for 8 hours a day 6 days a week as well as publicly humiliating and "fat shaming" those people in front of all of America. Not to mention that most of the "losers"...gained all the weight back after leaving the show. Why? Because it is an unrealistic approach to weight loss. The only reason Jillian is attacking the Keto Diet is because it is working. It is working for MILLIONS of people. Therefore they don't need her highly processed diet food or her "Fat Burners"...the Keto Diet is threatening her "cash cow".
Well, I gotta get ready for work so that's it for now.
