Introduction to Me...

Hello, my name is Lori and I am a food addict in recovery.  I started the Keto WOE 3 weeks ago at 237.4 lbs. Yesterday I began my 4th week on Keto and I have decided to share my journey.

First though, a little about me.  I am 54 and a very happily married (to Carleton) mother of 3 (Beci, Ricky & Kelli).  I started having children early so all of them are grown up and moved out of the house.  I also have a stepson (Jeramy) and 1 grandson (Hollis) who is my everything. The sad thing is Hollis lives in Oregon and I live in Pennsylvania.

For much of my life I was thin.  I was also active and a smoker. Around my late twenties I started playing around with quitting smoking.  I'd quit, gain weight, start smoking, diet, lose weight, quit smoking gain weight...etc... I finally managed to get it together and quit smoking for good in my late 30's. I also went through one hell of a mid-life crisis.  I got a huge tattoo on my right rear shoulder and a "tramp stamp" on my lower back.  I even got my tongue pierced!!!  I quit a job that paid very well, but I hated the job. I also left my husband of 14 years who I just wasn't happy with or in love with anymore and I joined a gym.

Shortly after joining the gym, the owner of the gym asked me if I needed help with my training.  He said that he noticed me working out but not seeing any results.  I explained to him that I didn't have money to pay him to train me so we worked out a deal that I would help him with working the front desk 2nd shift and he would train me in the day.  He got me into the best shape of my life at 40.  I also got certified to be a personal fitness trainer.

I worked at the gym for about a year and a half.  It was there that I met Carleton. We became fast friends and soon started dating. It was definitely a "love at first sight" thing.

Our 1st Christmas together.

After Carl and I started dating we both decided that I needed a better job with benefits and I quit my job at the gym and found another job.  My new job required me to sit in front of a computer most of the day.  It wasn't long before the pounds started packing on.  And while I know it my head that it didn't happen overnight...it sure seems like it did.

After 3 years Carleton and I got married in Jamaica. It was the best day of my life.

Over the years the weight kept creeping on and I was becoming more and more inactive.

I have tried so many things to keep the weight off.  I did a Whole30, but found it very restrictive and very hard. The most extreme thing I did was a diet called 20/30 diet.  This diet cost me almost $400.00 and is nothing more that an extremely low calorie diet and a few supplements. What makes you lose 20 lbs in 30 days is the extreme lack of calories you are ingesting.  For $400.00 I don't want to feel hungry and deprived all the time.

In short, in the past 14 years I have gained 100 lbs., and I am not sure why maybe it is because my self-esteem is at an all time low, maybe it is because I get winded when I go up a flight of stairs,  maybe it is because it is difficult for me to tie my shoes because my stomach is in the way, maybe it's because I have no energy, maybe it is because I feel sorry for my husband who didn't sign up for a "fat wife". (I have to mention, this man has never once mentioned my weight and loves me unconditionally and for that I am very blessed.) Maybe it's because I have the best children a mother could ask for and THEY DESERVE BETTER. Maybe it's that I want to live to see my grandson grow up to be the AMAZING MAN I know that he is going to be, maybe it's because I finally hit rock bottom...and maybe, just maybe I need to lose this weight for ME.

So I discovered Keto when I got an advertisement for a Keto Diet called Fit2Fat2Fit on my FB page. I listened to Drew Manning talk about the Keto Diet and I bought into it lock, stock and barrel.  I purchased his diet plan and his cookbook. It cost me nearly $100.00 and in my humble opinion, you really don't need any of it.  You can find the basics on YouTube, FB and Pinterest for free. Besides, once you sign up for this Fit2Fat2Fit, you get inundated with emails from Drew Manning and his crew trying to sell you all kinds of stuff to "tweak" your Keto plan.  Because I PAID for it...I diligently followed Drew Manning's plan the 1st week - I followed it to the letter - I lost about 8 lbs. I wasn't a fan of the Keeping It Keto FB page that you get with the Fit2Fat2Fit membership either.  I feel like these pages were designed for people to support and uplift one another.  The people in that page are kind of nit picky and condescending.
My 2nd week, I did my own thing and I lost 3.5 lbs.  I am using the Carb manager App and I love it. I also purchased a Keto book for my Kindle:
Keto: The Complete Guide to Success on The Ketogenic Diet, Including Simplified Science and No-cook Meal Plans [Book]
By: Maria Emmerich, Craig Emmerich
It is a great book. Very informative.

This past week, I haven't lost anything.  I was getting super discouraged as I have been keeping my carbs under 13 grams for most days and NEVER going over 30 grams.  Then yesterday, a co-worker who also does Keto, from one of our other sites SKYPE messaged me at work to ask me how I was doing.  I told her that I was stalled and frustrated.  She told me that she was stalled for 10 days and then Whoooooosh!!! She lost 6 lbs overnight. She may never understand just how bad I needed to hear that just at that time.

While I am not quite ready to post a full body before and after photo, I can post my Keto Face Transformation.  Start photo is 1 day into Keto, 1 week is after 1 week of Keto WOE, and week 2 is after 2 weeks of  Keto.

I have also joined a FB page: "Keto For Women Over 50".  They are the kindest most supportive women ever!!! So grateful for them, their advice and support.

When I woke up this morning I lost 4 oz....YAY!!! Finally.
